Damar is a specialist provider of business skills training
fact that I can work at my
own pace. I have completed
my apprenticeship in accounts
and am now part way
through my advanced
apprenticeship. I would
recommend Damar to
anyone wanting a career
in accounts.

Damar Learner
the experience with Damar has
taught me that age need not be
a barrier to learning. To receive
my certificate at the end was
amazing. I never thought I
could do it but I did!

Damar Learner
Over the years Damar has worked with thousands of young people and adults, helping them:
- Get jobs with good employers
- Achieve nationally recognised NVQ and apprenticeship qualifications.
- Develop their careers
Many former Damar learners now hold senior positions in their organisations. Many of them originally came to us from school with few (if any) GSCEs but all wanted to get onto the career ladder and continue learning at work.
We can help if…
- You want to develop your skills but don’t want to go to college.
- You want to earn money and gain a nationally recognised apprenticeship qualification.
Qualifications that we offer include apprenticeships and NVQs in…
- Business and administration
- Customer service
- Accounts (including AAT)
- Contact Centre Operations
- Team Leading
- Management
An apprenticeship qualification at Level 2 is equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grades A to C. A level 3 advanced apprenticeship is equivalent to 2 A levels. In all cases, the qualification is tailored to your job role, so one of our learners working for a firm of solicitors will pick different units to a learner who works for, say, a travel company.
An apprenticeship is usually made up of three main elements:
- A national vocational qualification (NVQ)
- Key skills qualifications in literacy and numeracy
- A technical certificate
Some learners, particularly those aged 25 or over, are able to study for an NVQ on its own.
Some questions
Q. How long will it take?
A. It depends on you. Most of our learners take between 6 and 12 months to complete their qualifications.
Q. What will I learn?
A. Working with your Damar assessor, you will improve your level of knowledge, skills and understanding in your job role and the industry that you work in. Most NVQs have a wide range of optional units which means that your qualification can be tailored to suit your needs.
Q. How much will it cost?
A. Nothing. And you will be earning a salary at the same time.
Q. How much work will I have to do?
A. The training sessions take place at work, but you should expect to do some work in the evenings or at the weekend.
Q. Do I need a job?
A. Yes. Our courses are designed for people who are working. If you do not have a job, we can help you find one. If you have a job already, that’s great – most employers are very supportive.
Q. Are there any restrictions?
A. Nearly all 16-18 year olds are eligible as are most people aged 19-24 who do not have a degree. However, we will always check your eligibility as the outset to ensure the training is right for you.
Q. I am over 24, what are my options?
A. Depending on your prior qualifications, you may be able to study for an NVQ at level 2 or level 3 or, in some cases, an apprenticeship or advanced apprenticeship qualification.
Q. Is there day release?
A. Most apprenticeships include a technical certificate, which tests your knowledge and understanding of your subject and you may also have to do key skills courses in literacy and numeracy. To complete these elements of your course you will spend between three and eight days at one of our training centres and you will be given time off work to do this. Accounts students often find it useful to attend Damar more often.
