A Bolton mum who completed an apprenticeship in accountancy has been rewarded for her efforts after being named Learner of the Month by one of the north-west's leading training providers.
Tina McKnight, 42, is a sales ledger clerk for the technology and computer online retailer Dabs.com in Westhoughton. She completed her apprenticeship in ten months after Dabs.com implemented a new training strategy for employees and chose Stockport-based Damar Training to manage their training programmes.
The apprenticeship course has enabled Tina, who has worked at Dabs.com - a BT-owned company - for five years, to gain her AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) Level 2 award and she will now go on to study at Level 3.
Tina, from Westhoughton, said: "It did feel strange at first to think that I was doing an apprenticeship at my age but it has been a great experience and I’ve got a lot out of it in terms of gaining more skills for my job which I think will help me progress my career in accountancy."
Damar Training is currently working with 130 employers in the north-west and has worked with more than 700 apprentices in the past year. Each month, the provider singles out an exceptional learner going through one of its training programmes for the Learner of the Month award.
Angela Renshaw, a training manager at Damar, said: "We have been working with Dabs.com for a couple of years providing training programmes and apprenticeships not only to their accounts team but also to staff working in business and administration and customer service.
"Tina certainly deserves our award she hasn’t found it easy and had to put a lot of hard work in to ensure she achieved what was required of her."
Donna McClarence, sales ledger credit control manager at Dabs.com, added: "Introducing a staff training and development strategy has been imperative for the company during a significant period of change. I believe having this kind of training in place has played a big part in keeping our staff motivated and it allows us to give something back to our employees which will benefit them not only in their current job role but in any future role they pursue."
