A team of six inspectors from Ofsted visited Damar during the week commencing 30th July. The report was published on Ofsted’s website on 3rd September 2012 and a full copy is also available on Damar’s website here.
Key findings by the inspectors were that the Damar’s provision is good or outstanding across all key areas. In particular, outcomes for learners were judged to be outstanding.
Inspectors spent time with almost every member of staff at Damar and also spoke to many of Damar’s current learners, employers and other partners.
Jonathan Bourne, Managing Director, commented: “as anyone who has been through an inspection will know, being inspected by Ofsted is an extremely rigorous process."
"To be judged to be good across all key areas with a judgement that we deliver outstanding outcomes for learners as well as outstanding value for money is a fantastic achievement. I am immensely proud of my colleagues at Damar who have worked so hard to support our apprentices and their employers. I would also like to thank our employers and their staff who play such a key role in their apprentices’ success."
"The data in the report relates primarily to 2011 and so does not pick up some of the exciting new areas that we are working on, particularly our growing national presence in legal apprenticeships where we are now working with several major national and regional law firms."
"Key to our growth has been our focus on using high quality, tailored training and assessment to generate value for employers and apprentices, whether this be the recruitment and training of a single apprentice administrator with an owner-managed business or the customer service team of a large plc . This focus on value will remain as we continue to grow."
"I would urge all employers not yet using apprentices in their business to consider doing so – I cannot think of an investment that a business can make where the potential returns are higher."
"As well as a recognition of good work we see the report as a development tool and are already starting work on the small number of areas where the inspectors have identified potential improvements.”
