Leading provider of apprenticeships to the legal sector Damar Training welcomes the development of a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Legal Services by The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives and sector skills body Skills for Justice.
It means that, from September 2013, the legal apprenticeship pathway will extend from legal administrator (level 2) all the way up to the level 4 higher apprenticeship in legal services which is designed for fee earners and case handlers. It will give firms the flexibility to recruit apprentices at each of the three levels and will support progression, with apprentices able to go straight from level 2 to level 4 (as now) or to follow the pathway all the way through. Exemptions against elements of the CILEx professional qualifications will then facilitate further progression to Chartered Legal Executive.
The availability of Government funding (subject to individual eligibility) at each stage makes this a highly cost effective option for employers and apprentices alike.
Damar has many years’ experience of supporting law firms with the recruitment and training of apprentices and works with firms across England. It was instrumental in the development of the intermediate apprenticeship in legal administration, is part of the partnership that has developed the higher apprenticeship in legal services and was a member of the working group that developed the national occupational standards for the sector in 2012.
Jonathan Bourne, Damar’s Managing Director commented:
“Our vision has always been the development of a legal apprenticeship pathway from entry level all the way to fee-earner. The development of the advanced apprenticeship in legal services will complete the pathway.
We are delighted that CILEx is developing the new apprenticeship and will be its awarding body. It ensures that the apprenticeship pathway is rigorous and integrates with existing routes to becoming a qualified lawyer. We look forward to delivering the new apprenticeship from September 2013.”
