What is your current role?
I am the Finance Manager for a professional Rugby Club.
Which apprenticeship are you undertaking?
I am studying the Higher Apprenticeship in Accountancy and Business Skills. The apprenticeship is accredited by AAT, a professional membership body for accounting professionals. This is a continuation of my previous apprenticeships.
What does your role involve?
I have been working in my current role for nearly eight months and this involves an 8 am to 4 pm full-time role, managing the accounts department. I prepare the monthly management accounts for our head office. Prior to that, I was in the same position for 11.5 years at another company.
How do you juggle work and being a mum?
After many years of juggling, I think I now have this down to a fine art. My day consists of getting up at 6 in the morning to prepare for the day. I spend approximately 45 minutes tidying up, organising what we will be eating that evening, arranging my children’s affairs and then getting myself ready, before leaving the house at about 7.20. The evenings are spent with my family watching television and catching up, after studying and tidying up. My forte is organisation and I have lists for everything.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
The buzz of office life and the challenge of completing deadlines. I love my job particularly the balancing of accounts and tackling the challenge of this. Working at a rugby club is also a bonus as we interact with the team.
How are you hoping to spend Mother’s Day this year?
After returning from watching a match on the Saturday, my family are taking myself and my parents for an evening meal on the Sunday night to celebrate a combined Mother’s Day. There’ll hopefully be champagne!
