What led you to enrol on an apprenticeship?

I wanted to better myself by improving my skillset, further my education and work towards a career that really interested me. In order to achieve this, I looked at all my available options and fortunately came across MFT which stated that they do an apprenticeship that, when graduating, gives you a recognised qualification at the end. I knew this was the one for me and so I applied for it and got it!

What does your role as an apprentice entail?

As an apprentice, and in addition to your job, you have a variety of responsibilities including; carrying out research for your study units, preparing for visits with your trainer, maintaining regular contact with your tutor and more. However, what I found was that if you’re prepared to put the work in then the rewards greatly out balance any negatives.

What have you enjoyed most about your apprenticeship?

I have learnt so much about myself, my abilities and my new career. The thing that has had the biggest impact on me was learning that if you ever receive “negative” feedback, you should turn it into a positive so that you can learn and grow from it.

I have really enjoyed learning new things from my business and administration diploma, in addition to strengthening my English and maths through the courses set by Damar. You learn something new every day and I look forward to the skills I’ll gain.

What has been a personal highlight of your apprenticeship?

Receiving recognition off my employer for my hard work and the effort that I have put in has been a major highlight for me. What topped that off was also being awarded ‘Student of the Month’ by Damar. It was great to see that my efforts have been acknowledged by not only my supervisor but my trainer too!

Have you got any advice for school leavers looking for the right career path?

It’s something I strongly recommend! Not only will it prepare you for the work environment, but it will also give you a taste of your chosen career and most importantly, it’s a step closer to your dream job.
