What led you to enrol on an apprenticeship?
Having two members of staff who have already undertaken apprenticeships with Damar, I realised the opportunities it presented and how the Business Management and Leadership apprenticeship could help me progress my skills and business. Having spent a number of years working to build the business, I found myself with a number of staff and locations to manage but no formal qualifications to help me do this to the best of my ability; I knew an apprenticeship was the best way for me to broaden my knowledge, learn new skills and manage my growing team. What does your role as an apprentice entail?
What does your role as an apprentice entail?
In addition to studying the modules within my apprenticeship programme, my role involves managing the day to day running of the practices and supporting the staff within them, ensuring that we are compliant with current legislation and planning ahead to ensure the business develops and grows. It is of great benefit to be able to learn while working as I am able to put my new skills into practice and pass on my new-found knowledge to the team.
What have you enjoyed the most about your apprenticeship?
I have really enjoyed getting back into academia having left University some years ago. Learning new business management skills rather than just concentrating on my clinical development has also given me a lot more confidence and motivation to develop my business.
What has been a personal Highlight of your apprenticeship?
A personal highlight for me was experiencing a ‘light bulb’ moment when working through one of my modules; I was able to apply my learning directly into a current situation at work. It gave me so much more confidence to deal with the situation head-on. Being able to relay this back to my trainer, Andi, at the time, made me realise I was applying the skills gained during my Apprenticeship into my work and I am learning so much from it!
