Advanced Business Administration Apprentice | Verastar

Sarka Rieder completed an Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Business & Administration at Verastar. Since completing her apprenticeship, Sarka has been able to use her newly-developed skills in her day-to-day work and her confidence in thoroughly understanding what she is reading and writing has improved immensely. She now works at Verastar in Broadband Provisioning.

What led you to enrol on an apprenticeship?

The opportunity to enrol on an apprenticeship was offered to me by the company that I work for. I decided to go ahead with the Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Business & Administration as I wanted to gain an extra qualification for myself. The coursework helped me to better understand my role as I had to write about my skills and use examples related to my job.

What have you enjoyed most about your apprenticeship?

After failing my maths and English exams, I worked closely with my manager, Feya and my colleague, Peter to improve my skills. I really appreciated this team dynamic. Working with my Functional Skills tutor, Amanda was also thoroughly enjoyable as she gave lots of interesting material to work with.

What has been a personal highlight of your apprenticeship?

My greatest personal achievement is that I managed to pass all my exams and have a much better understanding of my job.

Feya Wenham-Bullock, Broadband Manager at Verastar comments:

“Sarka is a hard-working member of my team and I trust and rely on her to support the team in my absence. Whilst doing her apprenticeship, Sarka experienced some difficulty with her maths and English exams. Therefore, myself and another member of my team worked hard to mentor Sarka with a series of tasks followed by constructive feedback. As a result of this and Sarka’s determination, she successfully passed all the exams. I am very proud to manage Sarka as she has shown dedication and loyalty to not only myself and the team, but also in ensuring that she completed the apprenticeship despite the hurdles that it presented”.

Sarka’s Functional Skills trainer, Amanda Wraight says:

“Sarka’s first language isn’t English (in fact I think it may be her third!). Even though she produced a really good-quality paper portfolio, she struggled to pass the exams due to the time constraints. Towards the end of her course, her trainer left Damar, but Sarka powered through and continued with her qualification. All this occurred whilst Sarka was also planning her wedding to take place back home in the Czech Republic. Sarka is very grateful for all the help and support she received from us (and so am I!)”.
