BUSINESS ADMIN APPRENTICE | NHS

What is your job title?

Apprentice Clerical Officer

Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship?

I decided to do an apprenticeship as I was looking for a career change from a retail manager.

What sort of activities do you do in your role?

My role here is as a receptionist, greeting patients, rebooking appointments and answering telephone queries. I also provide admin support to clinicians, for example, providing clinic lists and community physio packs, dealing with post and scanning referrals to the central booking office.

What have you enjoyed most about your apprenticeship so far?

So far I have enjoyed all aspects of my apprenticeship, although some things, such as the terminology, have been challenging as I am new to this business, I have been placed within a team who are supportive. Therefore I have the confidence to ask questions when I need to. I enjoy the mixture of meeting with patients and clerical jobs. Every clinic is very different so I have needed to learn how each is run.

How is your training with Damar?

My training with Damar is interesting although navigating one-file has been a challenge!

What has been your biggest achievement as an apprentice so far?

My biggest achievement is fitting into the team and learning as much as I have in a short space of time. I have had my first 121 with my manager, who has stated I am progressing really well.

What are your future career plans?

My plan towards the end of my apprenticeship is to secure a permanent position as a clerical officer within the NHS.
