William Bouwen, Legal Admin Apprentice at Carrington Solicitors tell us about his apprenticeship.

What is your job title?

Criminal Department Clerk. 

Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship?

I was 19 when I finished a football scholarship and I was ensure about attending university but I wanted to able to have the opportunity to learn and have an income. 

What sort of activities did you do in your role whilst you were on the Legal Apprenticeship?

  • Attending Crown Court
  • Generel office admin (emails, letters, phone calls) for the criminal department
  • Attending prison to see clients
  • Attending conferences with clients in the office

What have you enjoyed most about your apprenticeship?

Being able to attended Crown Court and shadowing barrister and solicitors in criminal trials.

How was your training with Damar?

It was excellent, very organised. I would highly recommend them.   

What do you think your biggest achievement has been as an apprentice?

My biggest achievement has been running a three day Crown Court proceeding in Birminigham Crown Court.

What are your career plans now you’ve finish your apprenticeship?

Starting  a Paralegal Apprenticeship and eventually becoming a Criminal Solicitor.
