“Clarity have been working with Damar Training offering a successful apprenticeship programme since 2014. By establishing a good working relationship, we have been able to recruit individuals ready to start their career in business travel and develop them to become successful business travel consultants.”
How have your apprentices progressed in their roles and how has Clarity benefitted from their performance?
Throughout the programme, our apprentices have been able to progress at a speed that works for both Clarity and their personal circumstances. All of our students have been offered a full time role at the end of their apprenticeship and are currently amongst the highest performers in Clarity.
“We believe our apprentice programme is creating stars of the future. It is a great approach for our business that is already reaping rewards in terms of the calibre of people in our organisation. This will only improve standards across the board as those who come through the programme will then help train future apprentices.” - Clarity’s CEO, Pat McDonagh
How have the qualification and training delivery been of benefit to your apprentices and how has this impacted your business?
As a result of the changes made by the government to the apprenticeship standards, we have adapted and developed our apprenticeship programme to suit. We’ve enhanced the scheme and it’s delivery by offering a range of training practices which include face-to-face, online learning, assignments, shadowing and observations. By recruiting new talent, our trainees bring a fresh and new approach to the business. Clarity are keen to hear and look into new ideas that our apprentices share with us as this can have a positive impact on an operational level.
What future plans do you have for your apprentices and how do you feel the training may support their future development?
Clarity currently have nine apprentices who are reaching the end of their travel consultant apprenticeship and we will be the very first travel organisation to have all our apprentices complete and pass the travel exam. Our apprentices have benefitted greatly from the work and support Damar have provided in conjunction with our Training and Operation Managers here at Clarity. Alongside their passion for travel, they all now possess the relevant skills to progress within our organisation and we look forward to continuing to work with them to further develop their career.
What advice would you give to other employers thinking about taking on an apprentice?
At Clarity, we are passionate about developing new and young talent and being directly involved in shaping the bright stars who will make up the future of our industry. Regardless of whether or not you are an employer needing to pay into the levy pot, we highly recommend adopting an apprenticeship programme within your business, as they not only embed themselves as valuable members of the team but also matured into role models for the next generation. Since we first adopted the scheme, our apprentices have become shining examples of Clarity’s brand values: passionate, dependable, creative, forward-thinking, conscientious and professional.
What, in particular, has stood out as being ‘exceptional’ about your apprentices or has ‘added real value’ to the team?
We have had wider success stories with a number of our trainees: Finalist at the Regional Apprenticeship Awards; Finalist for Best Newcomer at the Business Travel People Awards and we currently have an apprentice nominated as a finalist for the One to Watch Award at the IBM iX Every Woman in Travel Award ceremony, taking place on the 14thNovember. One of our apprentices recently experienced an all-expenses paid winners trip to Dubai, for winning the Forward Thinking prize at the 2018 Clarity Brighter Awards in July.
