Greater Manchester employers to benefit from cash grant

Damar Training has access to grant funding for 18-24 year olds

Damar Training, a leading provider of apprenticeships and work-based training, has announced the launch of a new grant funding scheme for employers seeking to employ 18-to-24 year olds in the Greater Manchester area.

The company has access to funding from the European Social Fund (ESF) at a time when many young people are looking at alternatives to a university education following the hike in tuition fees. Grants are worth up to £2,500.

In order to take advantage of the funding, eligible companies must have fewer than 250 staff, operate in the private sector and be prepared to offer full-time vacancies.

Managing the programme, Damar, which is based in Stockport, will deliver a complete recruitment and training service to the employee and employer.

Eligible candidates must be a resident of Greater Manchester with no qualifications higher than A-levels and must be unemployed and claiming benefits. Vacancies available will be in office and customer service roles including team leaders and managers.

Jonathan Bourne, Damar Managing Director, said: “Interest in apprenticeships has grown significantly over the past few years. Following the recent hike in university tuition fees more and more would-be graduates are opting for an apprenticeship as a means of gaining a formal and lucrative qualification while earning a decent wage and with the prospect of a clear career plan.”

He added: “The benefits of apprenticeships is that staff feel more valued and are therefore more motivated in their work. They finish their qualification with better skills and knowledge helping to drive up efficiency and productivity.”

For each position created grants of up to £2,500 are available over a 26 week period.
