ILEX Tutorial College and Damar Training team up on apprenticeships

ILEX Tutorial College (ITC) and specialist apprenticeship training provider Damar Training have teamed up to deliver the new intermediate apprenticeship in legal administration The apprenticeship offer will be rolled out to law firms on a region by region basis, with national coverage expected within the next 12 months. The scheme can be used by firms to recruit new apprentices, although some existing employees will also be able to benefit.

This initiative will significantly increase the number of opportunities for young people who want to begin studying law as part of an apprenticeship.

ITC and Damar are already working with many of the firms that have recently announced their own apprenticeship schemes including DWF and Kennedys amongst others. For firms thinking about engaging apprentices, the legal administration apprenticeship is ideal since it combines ITC’s specialist legal training with administrative skills and government funding.

Noel Inge, ITC’s Managing Director remarked, “I believe this qualification will create real value because it is directly relevant to an employer’s business. Learners will gain competence and therefore confidence by acquiring business orientated skills and knowledge. Employers will enjoy the benefit of government funding and be reassured that the intermediate apprenticeship will be delivered by two highly reputable training organisations. Both this and the forthcoming advanced apprenticeship are designed to fit around the professional qualification offered by the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives.”

Jonathan Bourne, Managing Director of Damar Training, said: “Damar has been heavily involved with apprenticeships in the legal sector for some time and we are constantly told that they represent great value for money for employers and apprentices alike. Where apprentices are aged under 19 on enrolment the first year training costs are met in full by the Government. In many cases older apprentices can benefit from subsidised training. A grant of £1,500 towards wage costs is also available for small and mid-sized firms new to apprenticeships. So far as apprentices are concerned, there are no fees and no student debt.”

This agreement focuses on the new intermediate apprenticeship in legal administration, which is designed for those who are new to law. Firms who want to train employees at a higher level can look forward to an advanced level apprenticeship in legal services, which will be launched in 2013.
