Rebecca Nevins – Medical Administration Apprentice at The Kingsway Medical Practice

What is your current role?

I am currently a Medical Secretary.

Which apprenticeship are you undertaking?

The Intermediate Apprenticeship in Medical Administration.

What does your role involve?

I have worked at Kingsway Medical Practice for 2 years and 8 months. My role requires me to type up referral letters for patients and general letters for patients and consultants. I also organise appointments for patients, file new referral forms and keep staff up-to-date with new information. In addition, I deal with patient queries and communicate with our referral centre.

How do you juggle work and being a mum?

Luckily, my working hours are during school hours. There are occasions when I am required to work outside of these hours but I just arrange for someone to pick up my youngest daughter from school. School holidays are challenging, especially the summer holiday. Here, I rely on friends and family to look after my daughters whilst I am in work.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy speaking to patients and get satisfaction from helping them. My apprenticeship is a worthwhile experience because I am learning new things every day.

How are you hoping to spend Mother’s Day this year?

This year, Mother’s Day also falls on my mum’s birthday so we are going out for a meal.
