Apprentices take first step to becoming qualified Licenced Conveyancers with Countrywide and Damar Training apprenticeship

In February Countrywide launched new apprentices to its CLC Conveyancing Technician apprenticeship program in its Manchester and Cardiff conveyancing centres.

This innovative program which provides apprenticeships in Conveyancing Technician and Licenced Conveyancing in partnership with Damar Training will see employees achieve professional SQA qualifications whilst undergoing rigorous vocational training aimed at enhancing their skills and competencies as they work towards becoming qualified Licenced Conveyancers.

Countrywide already run a successful Conveyancing Academy and jointly deliver the Level 4 Apprenticeship with Damar Training. Countrywide’s partnership with Damar Training also includes the delivery of the Level 6 Licensed Conveyancer Apprenticeship enhancing the development opportunities for their conveyancing colleagues. The Level 4 and Level 6 qualifications were launched at Countrywide’s Manchester and Cardiff conveyancing centres with the first Apprentices enrolled in September 2017.

Both apprenticeships are supported by the Council of Licensed Conveyancers and the Scottish Qualifications Authority.

Stephen Ward, Director of Strategy and External Relations, the Council for Licensed Conveyancers said:

"Whether they qualify through the apprenticeship route or by distance learning, it is great that firms regulated by the CLC are supporting more and more of their staff to attain recognition as Conveyancing or Probate Technicians or to qualify as Licensed Conveyancers and Probate Practitioners. "The achievements recognised by these four diplomas give new lawyers a great career boost, help raise standards across the industry and enhance consumer protection. We encourage all conveyancing and probate firms to consider how they would benefit by putting more of their staff through these routes to qualification."

Lesley Joyce, Head of Humanities, Care, and Services at SQA, said:

“The new Conveyancing Technician, and Licenced Conveyancing apprenticeships are a great opportunity for people keen to formalise their existing skills and knowledge, and also develop their professional understanding of conveyancing. The new qualifications are based on demonstrating competence in the workplace, so candidates learn while they are working. They can use a variety of different types of evidence – which is generated while they are at work – to document their progress.”

Jonathan Bourne, Damar Training Managing Director commented:

“We are delighted that Countrywide are offering the conveyancing apprenticeships to their staff in partnership with Damar. This innovative programme offers staff a debt-free route to a career as a qualified specialist property lawyer.”

Alison Roberts, Legal and Compliance Director, Conveyancing Services

“ There is a real shortage of experienced conveyancers in our profession and all law firms are chasing the best people. Good conveyancers are not just responsible for the legal issues, they can make a huge difference to how positive customers feel about moving house. We see the apprenticeship programme as a key part of our in- house training which will help to future proof our business and support our customers through what can be a stressful time.”

Darren Hall, Director of Operations, Conveyancing Services

“At Countrywide Conveyancing Services we have had an extremely successful training academy for 5 years now, in fact some of our brightest and best Lawyers have been developed from within, under our “growing your own” strategy!

And at the very heart of that strategy and our business are our people, we passionately believe that doing everything we can to help develop our people will secure a brighter future, so adding the Conveyancing Apprenticeships to our development programme gives all of our existing people, and potential new employees a huge advantage in today’s

innovative and competitive market place and helps make Countrywide the first choice for customers and colleagues alike. I am very proud of how we support our people”

John Gray, Head of Early Careers Development Programmes at Countrywide comments:

“We chose Damar as our preferred partner as we have first-hand knowledge that they are the best qualified to provide our conveyancing teams in Manchester and Cardiff with the required skills to continue to offer our customers a premium service.

Damar Training have proved to go above and beyond the call of duty to assist Countrywide in achieving its apprenticeship goals and so we feel the partnership is a fantastic opportunity to develop our people’s conveyancing careers.

Countrywide focus on supporting all of their staff to fulfil their potential and are committed to offering professional development opportunities to all employees regardless of their academic and professional backgrounds accepting applications from those who would otherwise be unable to access professional qualifications by reason of a lack of academic achievements or for financial reasons. Countrywide’s shining stars include those from property industry backgrounds such as estate agents and office administrators all of whom share a strong customer service ethos”.
